ABUS Window Bar Lock FOS550

The ABUS FOS550 bar lock is an additional window lock for windows and patio doors with a height of up to 3.10 m. With a robust engagement point at both the top and bottom, the patented locking system is able to withstand pressure loads and lever attacks from the outside even over an extended period.

The ABUS bar lock can be ordered either with or without a rod set. To ensure the full functionality of the ABUS FOS550, the bar lock must be combined and installed with a corresponding rod set.

ABUS FOS550 - Use & application:

The ABUS FOS550 window bar lock can be fitted flexibly to most inward-opening windows and patio doors. The elegant bar lock has a modern, understated design and is often hardly noticeable at first glance after installation. Due to the compact construction of the bolt lock, the attractive bar lock can be used universally.

With its robust anchoring points, the ABUS bar lock reliably protects windows and patio doors. The existing window handle is replaced by the ABUS FOS550 bar lock. The total locking is effected by means of a push cylinder – a key is required for opening. When the window is closed and the handle is operated, the solid locking rods extend and reliably lock the window. The ABUS FOS550 is therefore ideal for windows and patio doors as well as terrace and balcony doors. 

ABUS FOS550 - dimensions & installation:

For installation you need the ABUS bar lock itself and a suitable rod set. Please select the desired colour and the rod set corresponding to the existing sash height above. The sash height is determined from the square spindle, i.e. the distance from the square spindle to the bottom or top edge of the window sash. During installation the rods are shortened accordingly. The rod set is available in four different lengths (see list below). If you already own a rod set, you can also order the ABUS FOS550 bar lock individually without a rod set (select "without rod set" above under Rod Set).

The different rod sets are also available separately without the bar lock. Installation can be carried out by yourself with sufficient DIY skill – if in doubt you should, however, commission a professional to carry out the installation. Window rod sets:

* The sash height is measured from the square spindle of the window handle. The distances refer from the handle to the top or bottom edge of the window sash. For smaller sash heights the rods can be shortened accordingly.

Keying:

The ABUS FOS550 window bar lock is supplied in the endlich-sicher house keying. This means that items already purchased with the house keying can be used keyed alike with the ABUS FOS550. With just one key you can open various ABUS locks that are also offered in the house keying. Which products are supplied with the house keying is noted in the respective product description.

For double-sash windows without a fixed mullion one ABUS FOS550 bar lock and a corresponding rod set are required for each sash. For double-sash windows with a fixed mullion two ABUS FOS550 units and two rod sets must be used. If there is less than 24 mm of space between the sash and the window sill, a floor strike plate ABUS BSB550 must be used additionally. For double-sash windows a minimum distance from gearbox centre to gearbox centre of 58 mm is necessary. The standard locking blocks / strike plates are suitable for distances of up to 97 mm; otherwise double strike plates ABUS DSB550 are required. The floor strike plate BSB550 and the double strike plate DSB550 are available separately in the shop.

The window bar lock ABUS FOS 550 is also available as the ABUS FOS550A variant with an integrated alarm. If the contact between the magnets is interrupted during a levering attempt, the ABUS FOS550A triggers an alarm of up to 110 decibels. Alternatively, windows can be secured with telescopic rods (e.g. ABUS Tele-Z 100) and additional window locks (e.g. ABUS FTS3003) as well as additional hinge-side security devices (e.g. ABUS FAS101 & ABUS FAS97).
