SPAX drywall screw GIX-A magazine-fed - full thread, trumpet head, Phillips recess, needle point

Product information "SPAX drywall screw GIX-A magazine-fed - full thread, trumpet head, Phillips recess, needle point"

GIX is the collective term for the SPAX drywall screws, which you can easily recognise by their black colour. This colouring is the result of phosphating, a corrosion protection that ensures the screws do not draw in moisture and do not show through on the wall surface. In addition, the phosphate coating on the screw head provides the perfect adhesion for the subsequent jointing compound. Drywall screws have a specialised head, the trumpet head. At Spax it is shaped so that when screwing into the drywall substructure it does not pierce the delicate paper layer of the plasterboard. The GIX drywall screws therefore ensure perfect retention of the boards and can be recessed precisely to the millimetre.

Three thread types are available for the drywall screws: GIX A with fine thread is ideally suited for screwing into metal studwork.
GIX B with coarse thread is what you need for timber studwork.
GIX C is your partner when processing gypsum fibreboards.
GIX D, with its self-drilling tip, stands for secure screwing into thicker metal studs up to 2 mm material thickness.

What this means for you: For every material combination in drywall construction you are perfectly equipped with our GIX drywall screws.

Spax drywall screw GIX-A - properties

The cross‑recess torque drive offers, compared with a simple slotted torque drive, the advantage that the screwdriver no longer slips out to the side and thus cannot damage the workpiece. We integrate the cross‑recess H torque drive in our window-construction screws (FEX) or drywall screws (GIX), since the required screwing torque here is not so high.

The trumpet head is found only on drywall screws for fastening plasterboard. The concave, trumpet-like shaping of the head provides sufficient surface area to draw the plasterboard towards the substructure without completely piercing the top paper layer. The screw heads are driven in about one millimetre into the paper layer so that they can be finished flush with jointing compound.

In contrast to partial thread, the full thread extends over the entire length of the screw. The more thread turns a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces that can be transferred from the screw to the wood. Our full-thread screws are primarily used for highly stressed timber connections.

Our needle point is characterised by a steeper and longer shaping of the screw tip. This enables slip‑resistant and pinpoint placement of the screw, especially on smooth substrates. Additionally, it ensures a quick bite into metal and plastic profiles.

Phosphating refers to the application of a phosphate layer to steel components such as screws. Our phosphated GIX screws for drywall offer two advantages: on the one hand, unlike galvanised screws they do not draw in moisture — that is, they do not show through on the wall surface. On the other hand, the phosphated screw heads provide perfect adhesion for the jointing compound.
