Product information "SPAX plasterboard screw GIX-D - fully threaded, bugle head, cross recess, drill point, black"
Three thread types are available for the plasterboard screws:
The GIX A with fine thread is ideally suited for fastening into metal studwork.
The GIX B with coarse thread is what you need for studwork made of timber.
The GIX C is your partner when working with gypsum fibreboards.
The GIX D, with its self-drilling tip, is designed for secure fastening into heavier metal studs up to 2 mm material thickness.
What this means for you: For every material combination in drylining you are perfectly equipped with our GIX plasterboard screws.
Spax plasterboard screw GIX-D - Features
The cross-recess torque drive offers, compared with the simple slotted torque drive, the advantage that the screwdriver no longer slips out to the side and thus cannot damage the workpiece. We integrate the cross-recess H torque drive in our window-construction screws (FEX) or plasterboard screws (GIX), since the required driving torque is not so high here.
The trumpet head is found only on plasterboard screws for fastening plasterboard sheets. The concave, trumpet-like shaping of the head provides enough surface area to pull the boards to the substructure without completely piercing the top paper layer. The screw heads are driven about one millimetre deep into the paper layer so that they can be filled flush.
Unlike partial thread, full thread extends over the entire length of the screw. The more threads a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces that can be transferred from the screw into the wood. Our full-thread screws are used primarily for highly loaded timber connections.
In certain areas you have to fasten timber fittings to substructures made of metal. This is the case, for example, with our decking screw SPAX ALU or in drylining. Since ordinary screws would fail on hard metal, we also offer screws with a specialised drilling tip. Externally it resembles the tip of a metal drill and has two small cutting edges. The SPAX ALU pre-drills in aluminium up to 4 mm wall thickness so that the thread can cut into the material. You can drive it in just as easily as our wood-construction screws.
What this means for you: For a certain wall thickness of 2 mm in metal and 4 mm in aluminium, the otherwise usual pre-drilling with a metal drill is no longer necessary. No bit changes, no broken thin metal drill bits in the screw hole.
Phosphating refers to the application of a phosphate layer to steel components such as screws. Our phosphated GIX screws for drylining offer two advantages: on the one hand they do not draw moisture like galvanised screws – that is, they do not show through on the wall surface. On the other hand, the phosphated screw heads provide perfect adhesion for the jointing compound.
