Product information "SPAX drywall screw GIX-D - full thread, bugle head, cross recess, drill point, black"
Three thread types are available for the drywall screws:
The GIX A with fine thread is ideally suited for fastening into metal studwork.
The GIX B with coarse thread is what you need for studwork made of timber.
The GIX C is your partner when working with gypsum fibreboards.
The GIX D, with its self-drilling tip, is designed for secure fastening into thicker metal studs up to 2 mm material thickness.
What this means for you: For every material combination in drylining you are perfectly equipped with our GIX drywall screws.
Spax drywall screw GIX-D - Characteristics
The cross-recess power drive offers, compared with the simple slotted power drive, the advantage that the screwdriver no longer slips out sideways and thus cannot damage the workpiece. We integrate the cross-recess H power drive in our window-construction screws (FEX) or drywall screws (GIX), as the required driving torque is not so high in these cases.
The bugle head is found only on drywall screws for fastening plasterboard. The concave, bugle-like shaping of the head provides enough surface area to pull the plasterboard towards the substructure without completely piercing the top paper layer. The screw heads are driven about one millimetre deep into the paper layer so that they can be skimmed flush.
In contrast to partial thread, full thread extends over the entire length of the screw. The more thread turns a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces that can be transferred from the screw to the wood. Our full-thread screws are used especially for highly stressed timber connections.
In certain areas you need to fasten wooden attachments to substructures made of metal. This is the case, for example, with our SPAX ALU decking screw or in drylining. Since normal screws would fail on hard metal, we also offer screws with a special drilling tip. Externally it resembles the tip of a metal drill and has two small cutting edges. The SPAX ALU drills in aluminium up to 4 mm wall thickness so that the thread can cut into the material. You can drive it in just as easily as our wood-construction screws.
What this means for you: At a certain wall thickness of 2 mm in metal and 4 mm in aluminium, the usual pre-drilling with a metal drill is no longer necessary. No bit changes, no broken thin metal drill bits in the screw hole.
Phosphating refers to the application of a phosphate layer to steel components such as screws. Our phosphated GIX screws for drywall offer two advantages: firstly, they do not draw moisture like zinc-plated screws – meaning they do not show through on the wall surface. Secondly, the phosphated screw heads provide perfect adhesion for the joint filler.
