SPAX timber construction screw WIROX - partial thread, washer head, T-STAR plus, 4CUT, WIROX

Product information "SPAX timber construction screw WIROX - partial thread, washer head, T-STAR plus, 4CUT, WIROX"

Where maximum reliability and the simplest installation are required, these timber-construction screws come into play. Their strengths — such as a greatly reduced driving torque and a very low splitting effect — are particularly sought after in timber construction, because the large timber dimensions typically used mean that quickly driving the screws represents a real time saving. We take particular advantage of this in structural timber construction, where our partial- and full-thread screws are used for highly load-bearing and durable timber connections. The major advantage of such a screwed connection is that the metal fittings and brackets otherwise typically used for timber joints are completely unnecessary. Besides the cost-effectiveness — fittings often have to be completely nailed on — the much more pleasing pure timber appearance also plays an important role.

What this means for you: You save a lot of money on expensive timber connectors, which are also not conducive to the appearance of a timber structure.

You can create highly load-bearing and durable timber connections in the simplest way. For screwing stairs, timber elements or battens in roofs and walls, high holding forces are particularly important. Our universal screw with a washer head and partial thread provides that. The large SPAX washer head pulls two components together with great force; the optimized partial thread is matched to the high load-bearing capacity of the washer head. We have matched the shank length to the most common timber thicknesses. The interaction of the large washer head and optimized partial thread makes it possible, for the same load-bearing capacity, to reduce the screw diameter (5mm instead of 6mm). This naturally benefits the screwing speed.

What this means for you: For the same application, smaller screws are sufficient; you save weight, time and costs.

Spax timber-construction screw WIROX - Properties

The SPAX-typical drive T-STAR plus is a so-called internal six-round drive. This shape increases the contact area for our T-STAR plus, and the T-STAR plus bits sit optimally in the screw head. The best possible transfer of torque from the driver to the screw through T-STAR plus enables rapid working, and does so far more efficiently than any other drives.

Screws with partial thread are excellently suited for fastening thin components such as engineered wood panels, boards or floorboards to thicker components such as squared timber or beams. The short thread screws into the thick component, while the thread-free shank remains in the attached component. This creates the maximum clamping pressure between the two. The thread-free portion should be at least the thickness of the attached component.

The term 4CUT refers to the square-shaped formation of the screw tip. These edges displace the wood fibres during driving and create space for the core diameter of the screw. This reduces the splitting pressure the core exerts in the wood and prevents the wood from splitting near edges. The required torque of the cordless screwdriver is also reduced, since the screw core does not have to be 'squeezed' into the wood.

With WIROX, SPAX has developed a coating that is far superior to galvanisation in terms of corrosion protection. WIROX does not use chromium(VI); the screws remain just as load-bearing after years in outdoor areas not directly exposed to the elements, and are also environmentally friendly. WIROX screws are the first choice for all open structures without direct weather exposure, such as carports or pergolas; for direct weather exposure as with terraces we recommend our screws in the stainless steel variant.
