Spax Universal Screw Blued - Features
The Z cross-recess power drive is a further development of the simple cross power drive by the Philips Screw Company. The difference is that the four flanks of the screwdriver blade do not taper towards the tip. This increases the lateral hold on the bit and reduces the cam-out effect. In conventional cross-recess power drives this occurs due to the tapering, because the torque of the cordless screwdriver pushes the driver bit upwards.
The countersunk head (or flat countersunk head) mills a recess into the wood with its polygonal underside ("pockets") and can therefore be sunk without additional countersinking of the screw hole. The countersunk head sits flush with the surface.
Unlike a partial thread, the full thread extends over the entire length of the screw. The more thread turns a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces that can be transmitted from the screw to the wood. Our fully threaded screws are used primarily for highly stressed wood joints.
The term 4CUT refers to the square-shaped design of the screw tip. These edges displace the wood fibres during driving and create space for the core diameter of the screw. The splitting pressure exerted by the core in the wood is thus reduced and splitting of the wood near the edge is prevented. The required torque of the cordless screwdriver is also reduced, as the core of the screw does not have to be "squeezed" into the wood.
Bluing is a chemical process for the finishing of steel surfaces. Compared with galvanising, bluing has lower corrosion resistance and is therefore recommended only for interior use. Blued screws have a brownish appearance and are thus suitable for use in furniture restoration with dark or aged woods.
