SPAX universal screw with head bore - full thread, countersunk head, cross recess Z2, S-point

Product information "SPAX universal screw with head bore - full thread, countersunk head, cross recess Z2, S-point"

The universal screw is the absolute all-rounder in SPAX’s range. It can do almost everything – for example it can be driven in without pre-drilling into softwoods such as spruce and pine as well as into common composite wood panels (MDF, chipboard and OSB panels). This universal screw shows its superiority mainly in the interior fitting and furniture-building sectors, but it can also be used outdoors with the appropriate corrosion protection. Due to its special thread geometry, the driving resistance when screwing is significantly lower than with conventional screws, which not only saves your strength and nerves but also conserves the battery of the cordless screwdriver used. Splitting of the wood near the edges is reliably prevented.

This means for you: You drive more screws per battery charge, and you no longer have to worry about torn wood ends.

The cross recess Z drive, also referred to as double cross or Pozidriv, is an advancement of the simple cross drive developed by the Philips Screw Company. The difference lies in the fact that the four flanks of the screwdriver blade do not taper towards the tip. This increases the lateral support for the screwdriver bit and reduces the so-called cam-out effect. This effect occurs with conventional cross drives precisely because of the typical tapering, as the torque exerted by the cordless drill pushes the screwdriver bit upwards out of the recess.

This means for you: You no longer have to fear the screwdriver bit slipping out and can work with far less exertion. That saves a great deal of time.

The countersunk head (or flat countersunk head) is the most frequently used head geometry in the SPAX universe. It has a conical shape and is executed by SPAX as a 90° MULTI head. Our countersunk screws offer the optimal compromise between the greatest possible resistance to the head pull-through forces and a discreet, aesthetically pleasing fastening. With its polygonal underside (“pockets”), the countersunk head mills out its matching recess in the wood itself, so it can be sunk optimally into the wood without additional countersinking of the screw hole and then sits flush with the surface.

This means for you: Flushing the screws becomes child's play – completely without pre-drilling or countersinking the screw hole.

Unlike partial thread, the full thread on most of our full-thread screws extends over the entire or almost the entire length from the tip to the head. The more thread turns a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces that can be absorbed by these screws. We take advantage of this primarily in structural timber construction, where full-thread screws are used for highly load-bearing timber connections.

This means for you: You can fully trust the load-bearing capacity of timber joints with full-thread screws, no need to use unsightly galvanised fittings.

While the tips of conventional screws are simply pointed, our SPAX S-point offers that special detail again. The S-point is characterised by a wave profile that is formed into the front thread flanks. Place the screw and start the cordless screwdriver, and this thread immediately bites into the wood and draws the screw effortlessly in. This enables incredibly fast working without the workpiece being scratched by slipping screw tips.

This means for you: No more slipping on hard and smooth wood surfaces, and you save a lot of time during repetitive screwing operations because pre-drilling is completely eliminated.

For constructions in outdoor areas not directly exposed to the weather, effective corrosion protection of the screws is indispensable. SPAX has developed the WIROX coating here, which is superior to conventional galvanising in terms of protection and durability. Screws coated with WIROX are significantly more resistant to mechanical stress than the yellowish chromate-treated counterparts. WIROX does not use chromium(VI), so the screws remain not only just as load-bearing after years in outdoor areas not directly exposed to the weather, but are also completely environmentally friendly. Our WIROX screws are the first choice for all open structures without direct exposure to the elements, such as carports or pergolas; however, for particularly severe weather exposure, for example in decking areas, we still recommend our screws in the stainless steel (rust-free) variant.

This means for you: If you use our corrosion-protected screws outdoors, you can rely on the connections of your structure – WIROX keeps our screws structurally completely stable and reliably protected for many years in areas not directly exposed to the weather. So you can skip the annual visual inspection!
