Spax universal screws YELLOX - Features
The cross‑recess Z power drive is a development of the simple cross power drive by the Philips Screw Company. The difference is that the four flanks of the screwdriver blade do not taper towards the tip. This increases the lateral support for the bit and reduces the cam‑out effect. This occurs with conventional cross‑recess power drives because the tapering causes the torque of the cordless screwdriver to push the bit upwards.
The countersunk head (or flat countersunk head) mills a recess into the wood with its polygonal underside ("pockets") and can therefore be countersunk without additional countersinking of the screw hole. The countersunk head sits flush with the surface.
Unlike a partial thread, the full thread runs over the entire length of the screw. The more thread turns a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces that can be transferred from the screw to the wood. Our full‑thread screws are used primarily for high‑load wood joints.
The term 4CUT refers to the square‑shaped design of the screw tip. These edges displace the wood fibres during driving and create space for the core diameter of the screw. This reduces the splitting pressure exerted by the core in the wood and prevents splintering of the wood near edges. The required torque of the cordless screwdriver is also reduced, as the core of the screw does not have to be "squeezed" into the wood.
Unlike conventional zinc‑plated screws, YELLOX is chromium(VI)‑free and therefore much more benign for people and the environment. YELLOX screws are more resistant to corrosion at the same coating thickness. Nevertheless, their use remains confined to indoor applications. As the name suggests, YELLOX‑coated screws have a yellowish appearance.
